Sheffield Steelers 1-3 Fife Flyers
Star netminder Shane Owen made 30-saves as Fife Flyers spoiled the home debut of new Steelers Head Coach Tom Barrasso on Wednesday night.
The former NHL goaltender was behind the bench for his first game at the Fly DSA Arena, with Justin Buzzeo’s 19th minute goal putting the Steelers ahead.
The Flyers came out the stronger during the second period, outshooting their hosts 12-6 during the frame as they secured an equaliser through Evan Bloodoff after 35 minutes.
The visitors claimed the lead six minutes into the final frame when Brett Bulmer converted on the power play, assisted by Chase Schaber and Scott Aarssen.
Sheffield pushed hard for an equaliser, but were unable to find a way past Owen; as a final roll of the dice Barrasso pulled netminder Jackson Whistle – who made 23-saves on the night – in favour of the extra attacker.
The gamble did not pay off however, Paul Crowder scoring into the empty net 26-seconds from the end to secure victory for the Flyers.
