Coventry Blaze head coach Danny Stewart has named forward Kevin Morris as his new captain – revealing he made his decision ahead of schedule.
There are associate captain roles for British pair Luke Ferrara and Ross Venus as well as the Skydome side make their final preparations for the new season.
And Stewart admitted he was happy with what he had seen to make the call now rather than after the weekend.
“My intention was to wait until the end of pre-season to make these decisions, but what I have learnt in the first couple weeks has been enough,” Stewart said.
“Along with ‘Nobes’ (Kevin Noble) and ‘Keeno’ (Dayle Keen), we discussed this and all three of us came up with the same name.
“Kevin is very detailed in his approach, a true pro and does things the right way. His commitment levels are as good as I have seen in nine years of coaching.
“He will lead these guys on and off the ice and we are thrilled for him to be our next captain.
“With our associate captains we wanted to get some stability within our leadership group and I feel Luke and Ross do that.
“Both are on two-year deals and invested in the club and will complement Kevin very well in leading this group and working closely with the coaching staff.”
Coventry round off their pre-season programme with a double header against French side Amiens this weekend, both games at the Skydome.
