The first game of the weekend saw the Stars come out on top as both Dundee and MK looked to break their losing streaks.
It was a perfect start from the Lightning in the first of their three Scottish road games this weekend. Tim Wallace had the side from Milton Keynes in front with only 44 seconds on the clock, followed by Eric Neiley doubling that lead with 9:24 gone to give them a two-goal cushion after 20 minutes.
The Stars pulled one back with 7:26 gone in the second thanks to Lukas Lundvald, but that was cancelled out by Cole Shudra some 1:38 later as the Lightning re-gained their two-goal lead. Johan Andersson hit back for the Stars with 33:07 on the clock to make it a one-goal game going into the final period.
It was a tied game with 4:17 to go as the Stars refused to be beaten,Matt Marquardt scoring the goal that brought them level. No goals in that last few minutes meant overtime, and it was the Stars who finally got themselves a win – after three straight OT losses in the league, Francois Bouchard popped up with 1:08 to go in the extra period to take the extra point for the home side.
