Basara makes Debut for Fife

Fife Flyers will be aiming to get back to winning ways when they play the Coventry Blaze in Kirkcaldy on Saturday night. The Blaze are the 1st team the Flyers will face after Fife’s 8 game Elite League winning streak was ended by a 7-2 drubbing away in Cardiff last Sunday.

Coventry head into Fife having won only two of their last 5 matches. The Blaze come into tonight’s game sitting fifth in the Elite League table with 11 points from 9 games. They are 7 points behind current League leader Nottingham Panthers but, Danny Stewarts men have played 6 games less than Nottingham.

Making his home debut tonight is Canadian forward Marcus Basara following his release from Manchester Storm earlier this week. Basara initially joins Fife on a tryout contract following news received this week regarding Chase Schaber’s injury, which will see him out for the foreseeable future.

“We have picked up Marcus Basara who had recently been released from Manchester. He will be here on an initial tryout with the aim of staying beyond that period.

“He has a big frame and a good skill set, he skates well and on our big ice should be an asset to his game. Something that he may not have had an opportunity to show on Manchester’s smaller ice pad.

“We want to thank the directors for supporting this swift move in difficult circumstances.”

“Chase was injured during the Nottingham game on the weekend. The results have come back and they aren’t great, he will be out for a significant amount of time.

“He is an important player for us and this is a blow to the promising start we have had this season. He will work hard with the medical team to get back asap. In the meantime we have brought in cover for him.
